It's one of our hopes here at trendpress that being plastic free won't be a useful mark of distinction between us and other brands sometime in the near future. That is because we want plastic free packaging for clothing to be the norm, not the exception. The enormity of problems like climate change and the plastic in our oceans make it seem like there isn't all that much any single person can do; but that couldn't be further from the truth. For example, switching to a reusable water bottle saves on average 156 single use plastic bottles annually per person. A switch to a reusable shopping bag has an even bigger effect, 307 single use bags saved per year. Over a lifetime those figures add up significantly.
The plastic that you use will stay on this earth for a lot longer than you will. That's the horrible reality of the situation. But it's important not to dwell on the negatives but instead focus on the positive contributions each of us can make like the ones suggested above. The fact of the matter is that today, there is little excuse not to be doing something to reduce your plastic use due to the wide array of options available to us all. Everyone's individual situation is different: some are rich, some poor, some have countless time, some precious little. The main thing is that you do what you can. Don't let the quest for perfection stop you from doing anything. Never feel shamed that you are not doing enough; but feel inspired to do more. That is how we fight this problem, by sensing our agency and acting upon it.
So make the switch to that reusable bottle, take your tote bag when you go shopping and most importantly inspire others to do the same as it is when our small actions are multiplied that change will come and the tide will change.
